Federal law enforcement agencies carried out court-authorized searches in Minnesota on Tuesday as part of an ongoing fraud investigation, according to NBC News.
A Justice Department spokesperson told NBC News that the FBI was working with federal, state and local law enforcement on the operation. The spokesperson said the searches were tied to a fraud investigation and were not part of an immigration enforcement action.
At least 22 federal search warrants were executed in Minnesota on Tuesday morning, a senior Justice Department official told NBC News. The total number of raids was not immediately clear.
The Department of Homeland Security said in a post on X that Homeland Security Investigations and law enforcement partners executed criminal search warrants in Minneapolis in connection with what it described as fraud involving taxpayer dollars.
At least one search appeared to take place at the Somali Senior Center and Adult Day Services facility, where federal law enforcement officers were seen entering and leaving the building, NBC News reported. The facility did not answer a call from NBC News on Tuesday morning.
Vice President J.D. Vance said in a post on X that the task force and the Justice Department would be “relentless in exposing these fraudsters wherever they may be hiding.”
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., also praised the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security for taking action. In a statement cited by NBC News, Emmer said the Trump administration would not tolerate “waste, fraud, and abuse.”
Authorities did not immediately say whether any arrests were made.
