President Donald Trump said on Friday that the U.S. military carried out strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the operation was carried out by U.S. Central Command on his orders. He described it as one of the most powerful bombing raids in Middle East history.
Trump said the targets were military sites on Kharg Island. He also said he chose not to hit the island’s oil facilities, but warned that decision could change if Iran or any other party interferes with the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
The post then shifted into a wider warning to Tehran. Trump said Iran would not be able to stop U.S. attacks and repeated that Iran would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon or threaten the United States, the Middle East, or the wider world.
Lastly, he concluded the post by warning Iran’s military and others who are on its side to lay down their arms.
Kharg Island is a small Iranian island in the Persian Gulf located off Iran’s southwest coast. In the past, a significant part of Iran’s crude oil export has gone through the terminals located either on or near the island of Kharg.
