President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran on Sunday, stating that the United States would unleash “a force that has never been seen before” if Iran increases its assaults on US bases, as Iran’s state-linked media reported the country launching missiles and drones in the region.
In the Truth Social post, Trump said that Iran has “announced that they will be hitting very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before,” before stating, “THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE!”
Later on Sunday, Iran’s state media reported that the country was “preparing the most devastating offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces against the US military bases,” stating that the operation would “start in just moments.” The claims could not be verified.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, through its state-sponsored reporting, has also claimed to have launched additional strikes on Sunday morning. According to the Fars News Agency, the IRGC referred to “the sixth wave of Operation True Promise 4” as “extensive missile and drone attacks” on Israeli targets and US military bases in the region. According to Fars News, the IRGC said, “The Armed Forces will execute a different and tough step of revenge.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in his comments on the situation, which have been reported through Iranian media outlets, claimed that the strikes may have started at the US and Israeli military facilities in the region but that US personnel had moved from the facilities to hotels. This information could not be verified independently.
The situation is the result of the increased tensions between the US and Iran, which have come as a result of the US and Israel launching strikes on Iranian territory, killing the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The US has not reported the damage and casualties from the latest strike, nor have US defense officials reported their options in retaliation to the Iranian strikes.
