Nepal’s RSP, Ujyaalo Nepal Seal Unity Deal; Kulman Ghising Joins Top Leadership

Kulman Ghising joins RSP leadership as the party formalizes unity with Ujyaalo Nepal and sets an anti-corruption, merit-based agenda.

An agreement was reached on Monday between Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Ujyaalo Nepal Party, which included the entry of former power utility executive Kulman Ghising to the top ranks of RSP to make a strong alliance on corruption resistance politics.

Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, has been given the status of a witness in this agreement just a day after another agreement has been reached between RSP and his party regarding Balen Shah becoming their face for the post of the prime minister in the upcoming alliance. The parliamentary election in Nepal is to be held on March 5, 2026.

As has been agreed, Rabi Lamichhane shall remain the head of the political entity, while Ghising shall be added to the list of the vice chairpersons, which also includes D. P. Aryal, along with Swornim Wagle. It has also been agreed that the political entity shall be run with the following names, symbols, and headquarters, namely the “RSP”, the ‘Bell’ symbol, along with the headquarters in the Kathmandu Valley, with the guarantee of ‘zero tolerance for corruption’, ‘merit-based’ administration, and ‘agenda of economic & social progress.’

The unity document also references the Gen-Z-led protests against corruption and poor governance, pledging to address demands tied to those demonstrations. The protests in September led to the deaths of 77 people and the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Oli.
