Pakistan Says 6 Police Killed, 5 Attackers Dead in Assault on Dera Ismail Khan Training School

Six officers killed, five attackers dead after attempted breach at police training school in Dera Ismail Khan; security sweep continues.

    DEVELOPING

Six police personnel, including trainees, were killed and 13 people were wounded when armed men tried to storm a police training school in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan district overnight between Friday and Saturday, according to DG ISPR

The attackers attempted to breach the compound and rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate, the military said. Police on site shot and killed three assailants during the initial exchange. Two others were cornered inside a building and later killed in a clearance operation carried out by security forces, the statement said.

Twelve policemen and one civilian were injured, authorities said. The statement also said the attackers entered a mosque inside the school complex, desecrated the site, and killed the mosque’s imam.

The military said that an Indian proxy group called “Fitna al Khwarij” was behind the attack. That allegation could not be independently verified.

Security sweeps in and around the facility were continuing. Officials said those behind the attack would be pursued and brought to justice.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
