Fairfax County Extends Car Tax Deadline to Nov. 5 Amid Federal Shutdown

County supervisors move the car tax due date to Nov. 5 in response to the federal shutdown, keeping penalties off for on-time payments.

On Tuesday, Fairfax County has extended the car tax deadline to Nov. 5, citing the federal shutdown.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to extend the personal property tax (car tax) payment deadline to Nov. 5, citing the ongoing federal shutdown, according to Fairfax County.

Under the extension, residents will not incur late fees or penalties if they pay by Nov. 5, the county said.

Payments can be made online, via drop boxes, by phone, or in person at the Fairfax County Government Center, according to the county.

Residents with questions can contact the Department of Tax Administration at 703-222-8234 (TTY 711) or DTARCD@fairfaxcounty.gov, the county said.
