BREAKING: Agreement Reached to Dissolve Parliament and Appoint Karki as Prime Minister Per Gen-Z Demands

Deal at Shital Niwas sets 9 p.m. swearing-in; first Cabinet to recommend dissolving the House for immediate presidential approval.

VT Staff | Kathmandu: Finally, an agreement has been reached to dissolve Parliament and appoint Karki as Prime Minister in accordance with Gen-Z demands.

According to an agreement just reached at the Presidential office (Shital Nivas), former Chief Justice Sushila Karki will be sworn in as head of the interim government tonight at 9 PM.

According to Presidential Office Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel, the first Cabinet meeting will be held immediately following Karki’s appointment and oath-taking ceremony.

The same meeting will decide to dissolve the House of Representatives and recommend it to the President for approval, according to the agreement.

“After the Cabinet recommends dissolution of the House of Representatives, it will be approved by the President,” Pokharel said.

The agreement to dissolve Parliament and appoint Karki as Prime Minister has been reached in accordance with the demands of the protesting Gen-Z youth.

There had been delays in the Prime Minister’s appointment as President Ram Chandra Poudel and former Chief Justice Karki (proposed as PM by Gen-Z youth) could not agree on whose recommendation should dissolve Parliament.

Initially, President Poudel had told Karki that he will appoint her as an Interim Prime Minister, and after becoming PM, she should decide on Parliament dissolution and election dates from the very first Cabinet meeting.” However, Gen-Z protest representatives remained firm on their demand that Parliament be dissolved first before forming an interim government, causing negotiations to drag on.
