Zelenskyy says nearly 60% of Ukraine’s weapons are domestically made, announces joint plant in Denmark

Zelenskyy touts domestic arms output and unveils a Denmark-based joint plant for missile and drone parts, signaling a push on air defense production.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Ukraine currently makes about 60% of the weapons its troops use. He also added that a new joint production factory in Denmark will build parts for missiles and drones. He updated in his nightly speech, which was shared on X.

Zelenskyy added, “We are making new weapons together with our partners.” He also said that “for the first time in history, Ukraine has started building a joint plant with Denmark, on Danish territory,” to make parts for “our missiles and drones.” He also said that the solutions that are already in use “work very well.”

Zelenskyy added, “We have reached the point where almost 60 percent of the weapons our warriors use are made in Ukraine.” He said these weapons are robust and, in many cases, cutting-edge. He complimented the engineers and manufacturers who are making the country’s defense sector better.

He said that air defenses are a top priority and that Ukraine still wants to make different kinds of systems at home and with partners. He answered, “We have to get there.”

The effort is a step up from a goal Zelenskyy set in July, when he told a newly restructured administration to raise the percentage of weaponry created in Ukraine to “no less than 50%” within six months.

Officials from Ukraine and Denmark have said that more cooperative programs could be in the works. Ukrainian news sources and international wires have mentioned the Denmark initiative as part of a larger push to increase production in Europe with partners.

The president’s speech said that the goal is to keep the battle going while establishing a defense industrial base that can work with partners to provide drones, missiles, and eventually more air defense capabilities.
