A car hits a group of school kids in Berlin’s Wedding; four are hurt and the driver is arrested, Berline Police said.
Authorities claimed that on Thursday afternoon, a car hit a group of primary school children and their supervisor at Seestraße and Nordufer in the Wedding area. The police were called about the event at 1 p.m. local time.
Three children were injured, while the adult caregiver was hurt. The children had minor injuries and were not in danger, police said . Police said that firefighters treated the caregiver at the site and then took her to the hospital. Local news reports say that all of the injured were brought to the adjacent Virchow campus of Charité.
Florian Nath, a police spokesperson, said that a 20-year-old driver is thought to have run a red light and turned right before hitting the group. The police took the motorist into custody at the spot. Investigators are looking into whether he was on narcotics, which will be examined with a blood sample. Local media reported the car driver looked like he was in shock and was minor hurt.
The Berlin Fire Brigade claimed that rescuers looked at 19 persons after the incident. Police think the situation is an accident for now, but they are still looking into what happened at the Seestraße–Nordufer crossroads.
