Ukraine reported one of the largest overnight strikes of the war, saying Russia launched a combined attack of 526 aerial weapons aimed largely at civilian infrastructure, including energy sites and a transportation hub. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said emergency crews, energy teams, and rail workers were racing to repair damage across multiple regions. He called the assault “demonstrative” and urged a tougher international response to curb Russia’s war economy.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said the strike package included 502 Shahed-type attack drones, 16 Kalibr cruise missiles, and eight Kh-101 cruise missiles. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 430 drones, 14 Kalibrs, and seven Kh-101s—roughly 86% of the drones and 88% of the missiles, according to the ministry’s tally.
In an update, Zelenskyy said the main targets were civilian sites—particularly power infrastructure—along with a transport hub, a garage cooperative, and residential areas. He reported “dozens” of apartment buildings damaged overnight and ongoing firefighting operations. “Every Russian strike must be met with a real response,” he added, renewing appeals for stronger pressure on Russia and more air-defense systems for Ukraine.

Ukraine’s military repeated that need after the night’s interceptions, thanking air defenders and urging additional systems and interceptors to protect cities from “barbaric attacks.” Ukrainian news outlets also reported the scale of the strike and interceptions in line with the official figures.
Zelenskyy said he will push for new measures with partners in the coming days, starting with a Ukraine–Nordic–Baltic summit in Denmark and a bilateral meeting in France. He also referenced work on a “Coalition of the Willing” and additional steps with the European Union and the United States.
