Cabinet orders platforms to enlist within seven days or face gradual shutdown; ministry to issue notice and enforce compliance.

    DEVELOPING

Nepal’s Council of Ministers has directed that all social networking platforms operating in the country must register within seven days, with non-compliant services to be disabled in phases, according to an official cabinet decision document (Bhadra 9, 2082) received by Virginia Times.

The decision instructs the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to issue a public notice calling on operators to register in line with the Social Media Regulation Guideline 2080 and a Supreme Court order. The document further tasks authorities with preparing measures to restrict or shut down platforms that fail to complete registration after the deadline.

What’s next: The ministry is expected to publish the notice and begin enforcement steps tied to the seven-day window. Virginia Times will update as more details are released by officials.
