WSJ: The Pentagon quietly stops Ukraine’s long-range ATACMS strikes inside Russia.

Pentagon blocks Ukraine ATACMS strikes under an unannounced Defense Department approval process, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing U.S. officials.

    DEVELOPING

The Wall Street Journal, which cited U.S. officials, says that the Pentagon has been quietly stopping Ukraine from using U.S.-made long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to hit targets inside Russia. The paper says that since late spring, there has been an unannounced, high-level Defense Department approval process that stops these kinds of strikes and limits Kyiv’s use of the weapons.

The Journal said that Ukraine tried to fire ATACMS at a target in Russia at least once, but the request was turned down. The news comes as President Donald Trump has been more open about how frustrated he is with the three-year war and the lack of a negotiated settlement.

What’s next? The report got no immediate public response from the Defense Department or Ukrainian officials.

As tensions rise, analysts are keeping a close eye on both U.S. and Ukrainian leaders to see if they change their plans. The results of these talks could have a big effect on how the conflict goes and how people are doing on the ground.
