Trump’s Approval Slips Again Amid Economic and National Security Concerns

Morning Consult tracker highlights public concerns over Trump’s job performance and key policies.

    Highlights:
    • Donald Trump’s overall job approval drops to 46%, with disapproval climbing to 52%
    • Net approval on immigration falls from +12 to +7 points
    • National security approval drops from +13 to +6 points since June began
    • Economic anxiety tied to global trade war may be contributing to voter sentiment shift
    • Survey conducted among registered voters by Morning Consult

President Donald Trump’s approval ratings are once again trending downward after a brief period of improvement, according to the latest Morning Consult tracker released this week.

“Following a few weeks of improved numbers, Trump’s approval ratings are once again trending downward,” the Morning Consult analysis notes. “Our latest survey shows 46% approve and 52% disapprove of his job performance, similar to his standing throughout much of April and in early May, when his global trade war was inducing acute economic anxiety among Americans.”

Compared to the previous week, Trump’s approval rating dropped by one percentage point, while his disapproval ticked up by one percentage point.

Additionally, the Morning Consult report highlights that Trump’s net approval ratings on key policy areas such as immigration and national security have also dipped since the start of June.

“Voters are still 7 percentage points more likely to approve than disapprove of his handling of immigration, but that’s down from a 12-point gap,” the analysis explains. “His 6-point net approval rating on national security is down from 13 points over the same time frame.”

This erosion in support may reflect increasing voter unease about the administration’s handling of foreign policy, national security, and ongoing economic uncertainty stemming from the global trade disputes.
