Firehook of Virginia has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of its Firehook Classic Sea Salt Organic Crackers after it was discovered that the packaging failed to disclose the presence of sesame, a known allergen. This oversight could pose serious health risks to individuals with sesame allergies, the company warned in an announcement on June 4, 2025.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the affected crackers were sold in retail stores across 11 states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
The recalled item is specifically the 8-ounce package of Firehook Classic Sea Salt Organic Crackers with a Best By date of 09/29/25 and a UPC code 8 99055 00063 5. These crackers come in a clear plastic package and were sold as artisan-baked organic snacks.
The recall was initiated on May 30, 2025, following the discovery that the crackers were distributed in packaging that did not disclose the sesame ingredient. Firehook attributed the issue to a “temporary breakdown” in the production and packaging process, which resulted in the application of incorrect labels.
To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the mislabeled crackers. However, the company and FDA are urging consumers who purchased the affected product to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
