Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a sweeping vision for an AI-first future, as the company reports a strong start to 2025 and continues to expand its global footprint. In a detailed earnings update released Tuesday, Zuckerberg highlighted five major areas of growth driven by artificial intelligence: advertising, content engagement, business messaging, Meta AI, and AI-powered devices.
With over 3.4 billion daily users across its family of apps and nearly 1 billion people now interacting with Meta AI monthly, the company is making rapid progress toward embedding AI across its ecosystem — not just as a feature, but as the foundation of its long-term strategy.
“AI continues to transform everything we do — Meta AI now has almost 1 billion monthly actives.” — Mark Zuckerberg
From Ad Engine to Intelligent Business Partner
One of the most transformative opportunities, according to Zuckerberg, is in AI-driven advertising. Meta’s new vision allows businesses to simply set an objective and a budget, while the AI handles targeting, creative, and delivery — removing layers of complexity that traditionally required marketing expertise.
“Our goal is to make it so any business can basically tell us what objective they’re trying to achieve… and then we just do the rest.”
Recent tests of Meta’s upgraded ad recommendation model for Reels have already shown a 5% increase in conversion rates, while usage of AI-powered creative tools among advertisers surged by 30% in the last quarter alone.
AI-Driven Engagement Across Apps
AI is also reshaping how users engage with content. Meta’s recommendation systems have led to measurable growth: 7% more time spent on Facebook, 6% on Instagram, and 35% on Threads, which now boasts more than 350 million monthly active users.
“In the near future, content in our feeds will interact with you — not just something you watch.”
Meta sees the future of social content as personalized, dynamic, and increasingly interactive. With AI-enhanced creation tools, users will be able to generate higher-quality videos, photos, and even new immersive formats that respond to user engagement in real time.
Messaging as the Next Frontier
Zuckerberg pointed to WhatsApp’s 3 billion+ monthly users and growing U.S. traction as proof that business messaging will become a core revenue stream. In developing countries like Thailand and Vietnam, where messaging apps already serve as informal storefronts, Meta sees an opportunity to bring AI customer agents to global scale.
“I expect that just like every business today has a website or email, they’ll also have an AI business agent.”
AI-powered messaging tools will allow businesses to automate customer service, support, and sales — particularly in regions where high labor costs have historically made such services inefficient.
Meta AI: Personal Assistant of the Future
Meta’s latest launch, the standalone Meta AI app, gives users a personalized assistant based on their browsing activity, with a social feed showing how others are using the tool. The company is investing heavily in voice interaction, contextual intelligence, and entertainment capabilities.
“I think we’re all going to have an AI that we talk to throughout the day… and this could be one of the most valuable services ever created.”
While monetization is expected in the future — through ads, product suggestions, or premium features — Meta plans to focus on deepening engagement and expanding its user base throughout 2025.
Smart Glasses and the Future of AI Devices
Zuckerberg described AI glasses as the next-generation computing platform. Sales of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have tripled over the past year, and new models with expanded features are slated for launch later this year through Meta’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica.
“More than a billion people wear glasses today, and it seems highly likely these will become AI glasses over the next 5 to 10 years.”
These wearables will allow users to interact hands-free with personalized AIs that can see, hear, and respond in real time — essentially creating a digital layer over the physical world. Meta’s virtual reality platform, Horizon, also continues to grow through the accessible Quest 3S and new AI creation tools.
The Foundation: Llama 4 and the Road to General Intelligence
Everything Meta is building, Zuckerberg said, is downstream of its AI infrastructure. The company recently released its Llama 4 models, described as among the most intelligent, efficient, and responsive AI models in the industry. The more advanced Llama 4 Behemoth model is expected to follow.
“We’re focused on building full general intelligence… and doing so efficiently.”
To support these ambitions, Meta is accelerating investments in computing capacity, not only for 2025 but to ensure future flexibility as AI usage scales globally.
Looking Ahead
Zuckerberg closed by calling 2025 a pivotal year — not just for Meta, but for the entire technology sector.
“We’ve had a strong start to the year… and I continue to think this is going to be a pivotal moment for our industry.”
As AI becomes a deeper part of everyday life — from how we advertise and consume content to how we communicate and experience the world — Meta is betting not only on tools, but on intelligence as a platform.
