Two suspects were arrested in connection with an attempted jewelry robbery in Ashburn, and both are the subjects of active ICE detainers, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
In a sheriff’s office press release, authorities identified the suspects as Denisa Ghiocel, 31, and Dorel Ghiocel, 35, both listed as having no fixed address. Each is charged with attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. The sheriff’s office said both entered the United States illegally from Romania and are being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
The arrests followed an attempted robbery in the 41000 block of Misty Dawn Drive in Ashburn. The victim, an adult woman, was not injured, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said the case is tied to a broader probe into at least eight similar incidents reported over the past month. In those cases, victims were approached with distraction tactics before their jewelry was targeted. Authorities said the two suspects may be linked to one or more of those incidents and may be part of a larger criminal network operating in the region.
Deputies had already identified a vehicle believed to be connected to earlier cases during what the sheriff’s office described as a proactive investigation. While searching for that vehicle, deputies received the Ashburn robbery report involving a matching description.
The suspects were later stopped on Route 50 west of Middleburg and arrested without incident, authorities said.
This is a developing story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
